MUSCAT - Dar Al Atta’a has signed an agreement with construction and consultation firms Al Moamir and Al Masarat to build 13 houses, making the number of such houses to 40, meant for the needy.

Talking to Oman Tribune on the sidelines of the signing ceremony at Al Falaj Hotel on Saturday, Shatha Abbas, board member of Dar Al Atta’a, said that Dar Atta’a with the help of individual donors as well as some companies has started working on a series of houses on 2003 when the first house was constructed.

She said that all together 24 houses were built in 2009, when the idea came to push the number to 40 to commemorate the 40th National Day. She said that many individual donors came forward to help build these houses for needy people.

Abbas said that now 13 houses have to be built by Al Moamir and Al Masarat. The designing of these houses are complete. Normally, it takes 8 to 12 months to construct a house. One such house costs around 25,000 rials.

Nada Al Jamali, head of the family project at Dar Al Atta’a, said that the effort was to provide the people a house with basic furnishings including ACs. She said that they expect more donors to come forward to donate furnishing items also for the charity work being done by Dar Al Atta’a.

Recently, Al Yousuf – Truckoman has agreed with Dar Al Atta’a to donate 19,000 rials to 25,000 rials for the construction of 13 houses.

Chris Fidler, group general manager of Truckoman, said that it was the social responsibility of the corporate sector to take part in the charity work and help all in the society to develop together and have at least the basic things needed for respectful living.

He also said that his company would continue to support the charity work and would come up with some more ideas to be part of the service to the people.
